Halloween Flower Pots!

Since summer, my dollar general (the closest thing to a dollar store I have in the immediate vicinity) has had these pots sitting out front. They are very heavy and thick clay pots. I liked them. I wanted them. But not for the $5 EACH they were charging.

Then they dropped to $2.50. hmmmm no..... still not worth it to me. (I can be such a cheapskate!)

Last night when I went to get some tissue for our runny noses- they were on clearance for 75 cents! Yes, I want them now. I got three. And here they are...

Now.... what to do with them? My first thought (given the season) was to paint jack lantern faces on them! BUT... I use my flower pots all year (we do container gardening) and as much as I like Halloween.... I don't want to be looking at jack o lantern faces in July.

I have a lot of pots this lovely terracotta color, and while I always want more pots, the color is old to me. With only black and white paint on hand, what shall I do?

That was a once over with spray paint but you know... I'm kind of digging the old, worn look, and the chips and knicks in the pots are working for me. But... they still look a little plain. Lets see what else I can come up with....

I painted the ridges of the pots in contrasting colors. but detail work and spray paint dont mix well, so I was left.... unhappy.

So I painted them all white again.

And for good measure.... put some flowers in it.

Nice mess I'm making on my shelf, right? But still, I'm not happy. I think my problem is that I WANT it to be halloweeny. But not permanently. Cause after Halloween, I'll want it to be Christmas-y!

So... hmmmm.... yeah. I need something temporary, that will last (for at least a month or so) outside and easy and cheap. So I went and took a nap.

When I got up- I had it! RIBBON! Fairly inexpensive, will last, is temporary and I can change it out for whatever holiday or season I want! And here we go! Click here for instructions for the spider ball!
Just like with the vase I just did, the ribbon is secured by duct tape! (Oh how i love that stuff!)
